The Shadow of Weng-Chiang

"The Shadow of Weng-Chiang" is a stand-alone sequel to the TV serial "The Talons of Weng-Chiang." It is a pretty good MA, comparing well in feel to the era of Doctor Who in which it is set, mixing fanciful science with an interesting story. The element of mystery is lost a bit too early, though, and the full promise of the early moments is not quite fulfilled because of that fact. An enjoyable read, it is worth the time spent on it.

The Dark Path

"The Dark Path" was a bit of a let-down. The story involves a mysterious outpost of the fallen Earth Empire, and a series of mysterious killings on the outpost. It is primarily a how the Master became the Master story, however, and I am afraid that in my opinion that element was not well-handled. The transition seemed too sudden, too abrupt, and without enough of a set-up. A decent book, with some interesting cultural moments for the Federation forces...but quite frankly, the Master deserved better.

mild recommendation.
