A physician who is faced with a perplexing case refers the patient to a specialist. When company presidents, attorneys, or accountants are faced with a perplexing financial case, they turn to Weinstein Associates Limited.
Weinstein Associates limited, a financial consulting and investments firm located in downtown Milwaukee, is proud of its reputation as a generator of imaginative and sophisticated solutions to the most complex financial and management problems facing today's business and industry.
The firm's scope of operations includes financial management, corporate business management, real estate consulting and management, locating of companies and real estate for clients, tax planning, acquisition and disposition consulting, leveraged buy-outs, corporate business management, development, and expert testimony - locally, nationwide, and in Europe.
The firm, which also maintains an office in Florida, has negotiated deals in excess of one billion dollars over the past 10 years. Although about 70 percent of its clients are based in the United States, Weinstein Associates Limited anticipates that its international dealings will expand rapidly as local companies move to take full advantage of the 12-nation European Community's move to a single market economy in 1992 - a shift that will entail more than 300 regulatory changes.
George Weinstein received his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Illinois and his M.B.A. from New York University. He also attended New York University Law School and is a CPA. His biography appears in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and the Royal Blue Book. In addition, George Weinstein coordinates the Wisconsin fund-raising efforts for the University of Illinois.
The Weinstein family is active in local Jewish philanthropy through the Milwaukee Jewish Federation and related agencies and the Israel Bond program, and George Weinstein is Cantor at Milwaukee Jewish Home for the Aged for the High Holidays.
Stanley Weinstein holds a bachelor's degree in accountancy from the University of Illinois and a Juris Doctor from St. John's School of Law. He is both a CPA and an attorney, and is licensed to practice both in the United States and in Israel, where he is still associated with his law firm. He is also a real estate broker and a senior review appraiser.
Stanley Weinstein's biography appears in Who's Who in Commerce and Industry, Who's Who in the Midwest, and Who's Who in the World. Stanley is president of Lake Park Synagogue, on the executive committees of Hillel Academy and Milwaukee Jewish Community High School, a member of the Wisconsin Institute for Torah Studies, and participates in various other philanthropic activities.
In 1975, Weinstein Associates was asked by Midland Bank (Milwaukee) to advise and manage WREIT, a publicly held real estate investment trust headquartered in Milwaukee that had just been sued and was losing $900,000 cash each year. When the Weinsteins terminated their engagement five years later following a hostile proxy fight, WREIT was earning more than one million dollars annually.
In 1980, in another typically complex transaction, Citicorp (New York) asked Weinstein Associates to target, negotiate, and close the friendly acquisition of a major real estate investment trust traded on the New York Stock Exchange for a British company. The firm continues to provide hands-on management advisory services for this company. In 1986 the firm asked Weinstein Associates to find a purchaser for all of its real estate.
Weinstein Associates negotiated a transaction for stock, a portion of which was then distributed to public shareholders, thereby permitting the British company to take the REIT private. The acquiring company, Illinois-based Medical Management of America, Inc., was simultaneously underwritten and is now traded on the American Stock Exchange. George Weinstein sits on MMA's board of directors and executive committee, and continues to consult for the company, which specialized in eye-cataract surgery.
In addition to its services to real estate and public companies, Weinstein Associates assists private individuals in negotiating, financing, acquiring, and investing in companies valued at a few hundred thousand dollars to tens of millions of dollars. The firm has also been active in the development business in both new construction and building renovation, and invests its own capital in projects of unique interest. Current Weinstein Associates' investments include furniture, carpeting, ice, and real estate ventures.
Weinstein Associates opened offices in Milwaukee in 1973, when George Weinstein was recruited to the area to manage Plankinton Trust. This highly selective firm has its origins in a family certified public accounting firm, which was founded in 1919 in New York by Morris J. Weinstein to meet client needs in the areas of management, mergers, and tax planning. George Weinstein joined his father's firm in 1945 and became a managing partner seven years later.
The Weinsteins had offices in New York City, London, Pennsylvania, and Upstate New York, and included in its client base major conglomerates, real estate entrepreneurs, financial tycoons, and royalty. In the early 1960s the company acquires the CPA firm of Groothius and Rosen. In the early 1970s the firm was acquired by J.K. Lasser and then Touche Ross. At that time, George Weinstein left the firm to establish Weinstein Associates with his son, Stanley.
