Meeting on Uniforms and Other Issues
 

An extremely successful first meeting of PAC (Parental Action Committee) was held at Rotary Park in Winter Haven on June 5th, 1999  . Over 50 parents attended. Fellowship, food, and solidarity was was excellent. This was the kick off for our petition drive, and most attendees took petitions to get more signtures.
 
 

 
Dr. Shirley Correl, education specialist was the keynote speaker. Other speakers included Robert Pickering, Chris Hughes, Bryan Siddell, Darlene Williams, and Tim Tillman.

The meeting was well attended by the media as well. Individuals representing Bay News 9, Channel 8 (NBC Tampa), the Tampa Tribune, Ledger, and News Chief were in attendance.

TO: ALL PARENTS OF POLK COUNTY

We are holding a meeting at 2:00 P.M., on Saturday, June 5th, 1999 at Rotary Park in Winter Haven.

The purpose of this meeting will be to organize the community to start dealing with the school board and superintendent, neither of whom seems to think they are accountable to the parents of the school children. We have a lot of work to do. The uniform boycott and other issues will be discussed. We need parents to start getting involved in the decisions made in our community.

Rotary Park is on 6th Street N.E. on the block between Ave. C and Ave. D. in Winter Haven. If you need directions, here is an interactive map to Rotary Park. Use the zoom bar at the top of the map to get a closer view to get the individual street names or zoom out to see how to get to the park from anywhere in the county.

Please bring lawn chairs so that we can be sure that everyone has a place to sit.  There is plenty of playground equipment for the children if you want to bring them.
