PAC Voter Registration Drive

At our August 3rd 1999 plaintiff's meeting, PAC initiated a voter registration drive for all of our members. We registered 5 new voters at that meeting and 10 voters at the subsequent August 8th Rally in the Park. PAC will have Voter Registration forms available at all future meeting. Completed forms will be hand delivered to the Supervisor of Elections office of Polk County.

The Polk County School Board and Superintendent have evidenced precious little interest in the desires of parents and teachers in recent years. It is only through our ability to participate in the system through our votes that we can hope to effect any change in the situation. I am unsure as to what motivates the current board and superintendent , but our only hope to improve the situation is to replace them through the election process. PAC is committed to seeing that as many of our members as possible are eligible to vote in upcoming elections. Working together, we can make a difference.

Finally, a quote from Glenn Reynolds aptly illustrates his disdain for PAC members. Mr. Reynolds is fond of making the claim that he is the "CEO" of the Polk County School System. Clearly, he has forgotten that the CEO of a corporation answers to the share holders of that corporation - in this case, the parents. This is in reference to the 100 PAC members that attended the July 27th School Board meeting: "I don't know how many of those folks who addressed the board the other night are registered voters and I don't really care." This is unquestionably one of the most pathetic statements I have ever heard come from the mouth of an elected official - and that is saying a lot. Well, Mr. Reynolds, you may not care whether or not the parents that you are SUPPOSED to represent are registered voters, but I can assure you that PAC does care. PAC will do everything possible to see that each and every one of our members (and any other interested citizens of this county) are registered to vote - regardless of what you think.
