Conserve water by turning off your sprinklers during the rainy season. Lawns only need watering every two to three days in the summer. A heavy rain eliminates the need for watering for up to a week, conserving an enormous amount of water. If it rains one-half inch, residents can skip one day of lawn watering; if it rains 1 inch, skip a week; and if it rains more than 1 inch, skip more than week. If roughly 500,000 home-sprinkler systems were turned off each time it rains, over 1 billion gallons of water would be saved.
