![[an itchy item - a crab louse - Phthirus pubis]](PP2.JPG) |
Phthirus pubis is commonly called the crab louse for obvious reason. Usual transmission is venereal, but is also known through close contact with clothing and bedding. Not known to transmit disease through its bite as does the common body louse, Pediculus. Its bite may cause intense itching, and, with induced scratching, may lead to secondary bacterial infections. |
