Gladys Bashor, 95, of Salem died Wednesday. (MARION CO.)

Born and educated in New Market, Iowa, she moved to Salem in the 1940s. In 1949, she began working for the Department of Motor Vehicles until her retirement in 1969. She married Wilbur in 1925; he died in 1993.

Survivors include her son, Noble of Salem; sisters, Wilma Peterman of New Market, Ethel Krueger of Silver Lake, Wash., Leala Herold and Iva Peters, both of Lebanon; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Restlawn Funeral Home. Contributions: charity of choice.

Creola Coral Clayton
Coral Clayton, age 87, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away Saturday evening, February 12, 2000, at Clarinda Regional Health Center where she had been a patient since Monday. Coral had resided at the Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, since October 1999. She was born November 14, 1912, in Clarinda to Lonnie and Tamar Peterman Thomas.

Coral was a 1931 graduate of Clarinda High School. She was united in marriage in 1933 to Elden Clayton who preceded her in death July 4, 1966. While living in Council Bluffs she worked at Shaves Grocery Store as a checker.

Survivors include daughters, Sharon Borden and husband Milo of Crescent, Iowa, Marvel Mayberry and husband Robert of Las Vegas, Nevada, son Richard Clayton and wife Carin of Los Angeles, California, five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, sister Wanda Lea Jones and husband Rollie of Port Orchard, Washington, and sister-in-law Naomi Harris of Clarinda.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Roxa Woldruff, and one great grandson Ryan Payne.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 15, at the Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. John Clark officiating. Burial was in Clarinda Cemetery.

1209. Jacob Elmo PETERMAN

Jacob Elmo Peterman was born Feb 8, 1897 in Page County, Iowa to John and Mary
Peterman and departed this life Jan 15, 1959, at the age of 61 years, 11 months
and seven days in the Municipal Hospital at Clarinda, Iowa. His death was caused
by a stroke. He professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized and taken
into the Methodist Church at New Market at the age of 24.  He was united in
marriage to Jessie Thompson Oct 23, 1918, at Clarinda IA. To this union four
children were born: Wyleen Miller of New Market, IA, Violet Smith of Denver,
Colo., Elmo Peterman Jr. of Clarinda, IA, and infant Marjorie Elaine, who
preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn, besides his family, eight
grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, Merrill of Conway, Harley of
Tolure, SD, Corda Lamb of Denver, Colo., and Tammar Thomas of Shambaugh; also a
host of relatives, friends and neighbors. Two brothers Bert and Eddie, and one
sister Myrtle Yearous preceded him in death. He was a kind and loving husband,
father, and a neighbor to everyone. Funeral services were conducted from the
Walker Funeral Home at 2pm Sunday, Jan 18, 1959, with Rev. Lacy Thompson in
charge, assisted by Preacher Clarence Potter. Music was a quartet composed of
Irma Bonham, Dorothy Doyle,  Darrell Fulk, and Dale Messinger. Organist was
Aletha Hutchings. Casket bearers who carried him to his final resting place in
Old Memory Cemetery were Paul Peterman, Ivan Peterman, Ray Peterman, John
Peterman, Albun Yearous, and Jack Woldruff.
