Although not her familiar home of Benden, she had this theory: "I didn't ever expect to come to Benden, yet I called it home. Telgar, too, will become as dear to me." As it seems to have. Several of Telgar's residents have had an impression on the goldrider. Richenda, the assistant Headwoman, has become a close and seeked-out friend...as has her rather gruff husband, Head Steward Rennick. Alywn (now A'wyn at Igen Weyr), Sandar, Josiah, Jaeleka, Jayna and Silanda are just a few others. Kassi and Kin visited the Weyrlings as they made the journey the long way. An interesting event, if a familar one for Kin, also happened when she and some friends decided to visit Keroon Hold. Like the time she and Kassi found themselves nearly tossed out of the Rusted Hulk by Master Jacob, those who went to Keroon received an equally chilly reception. Sometimes it is just safer to stay home...
It seemed that Kindre and the Weyrleader then, K'tyn, managed to find time around their new duties to be together. The goldrider had a bit of a crush on Kiat ever since the two were Candidates together, telling him she was just biding her time while he went from relationship to relationship. Will this be the last? Only the turns will tell, though their weyrmating may be some indication. Even with the transfer of his former love, Nimiriel to Telgar, Kin seems at ease and happy in the relationship. Sionelle stepped down as Weyrlingmaster, replaced by the equally duty-bound Kerlyn. Kindre's wariness of blueriding Weyrlingmasters seems to have dimmed...she and Kerlyn found chatting quietly now and again. A few turns later, Kerlyn stepped down, Maylia taking the reigns of turning Telgar's weyrlings into strong rider-pairs. Kassima and "that silver-tongued rouge of an Istan greenrider" (as Kin is fond of calling Jh'rin) had a beautiful, if fated, daughter named Kharisma. What future could lie ahead for this child of Pern's most famed greenriders?
The turns passed so quickly that Telgar Weyr had become more familiar to Kindre than mayhaps Benden was. It wasn't long before Leilanth rose and Telgar had its own sands filled with the first clutch in several turns. Daelyth, too, rose to mate soon after and it seemed to all that Telgar was becoming the great Weyr it had been in the past.
The Weyrleaders called a meeting one evening. To everyone's shock, Jehrina announced that she would be retiring. "The situation here at Telgar has stabilized, the reason I came over in the first place. It's been several turns since we left Benden and it's time for me to move aside for someone who's a little less set in her ways, and is more easily adaptable to the changing needs of the Weyr." Kindre was named Senior Weyrwoman to Telgar Weyr on the 26th day of month eight in the 23rd turn of the 10th Pass. Herath, not wanting to be outdone by her fellow queens...or so it seemed...began to glow quite brightly a few days later. Within a sevenday of the meeting Herath rose in what proved to be a historical flight. K'tyn's Prometh was favored to win and remain as Telgar's Weyrleader. Some scuffle in the skies, however, kept that from coming true. Instead, a young Istan dragon, Talibenth, captured Herath in the skies above Telgar and his rider, M'hryn, was named as the next Weyrleader.
M'hryn's introduction to Weyrleading was a bit of a bumpy one. Young and full of ideas, he began making changes right away. Kindre seemed to be moving along on a quieter path; continuing to tend the records as she always had, learning more about the job at hand and trying her best to make time to see her weyrmate, K'tyn. The strain on the relationship did not go unnoticed. K'tyn, in fact, decided to burn all of M'hryn's underthings one eve after hearing that Kindre might be favoring the younger Istan. Upon Richenda's sudden illness, Rhiallya was named to take over the position of Headwoman. While the residents missed Riche's...colorful...anecdotes and tales, Rhiallya had the caverns running sweeter than a Harper's Spring love ballad. Things calmed down after that...until the Weyrs deciding to do some cross-training.
The Transfers
As a way of sharing knowledge and Threadfighting techniques, High Reaches Weyr and Telgar Weyr had decided to exchange a number of rider/dragon pairs. Each Weyr provided 30-33 pairs to the other Weyr, which is the number to make up a full wing, although each Weyr will individually decide how to assign the riders. Amongst the Reaches riders being exchanged were Lirra, R'ehn, K'dar, Tiya, Keriann, Kena, and M'rgan.
Sidebar: It was said that when the decision as to who would transfer was finale and Kassima and Kindre were aware of M'rgan's impending arrival, many people at the Weyr became nervous. Several remembered M'rgan's stay back at Benden and the mischief that ensued during those months. Now that it is permanent? Fear...Herath, however, was excited though for a more genuine reason; seems the gold still has affections for Ularrith...but back to the story...
Since Telgar's weather is much like the Reaches's, it wouldn't be too much of a hardship for them and their lifemates. This wing exchange took place after Jenryth's and Chezroth's clutch Hatched, when all the activity related to the Candidates fell off and when the Threadfall was a little lighter at both High Reaches and Telgar so that the new Weyr members would be more easily integrated. Later on, C'lus and Kylandra transferred in to replace a pair that wished to return to the Reaches.
Here we go again...
Herath rose and, again, was caught by M'hryn's Talibenth, solidifying the young Istan's position as the Weyrleader. Herath laid her first golden egg upon the sands and the Weyr was aflutter again with new faces as the Candidates poured in. Hatching day was, as always, very eventful! After the grounds were littered with little more than shards, Telgar had a new class of weyrlings. Among the large new group were Bronwynn with Brown Fehuth, Daffela with Green Teiwazth, Meara with Green Isath, R'yn with Brown Dagazth, Saskia with Gold Rinath, Syri with Blue Hagalath, Th'lon with Bronze Algizth and Trila with Blue Ansuth. Kerlyn also stepped down as Weyrlingmaster, Maylia named to replace her. Sionelle, too, stepped down from her Weyrsecond position with M'hryn naming A'lex to replace her. Not that our dear 'Elle is truly every replaceable :)
A meeting of the Weyr Council was convened and soon after, M'hryn, Kindre, A'lex and Ursa were seen going behind closed doors in Telgar's council room. Whatever was discussed went into the wee hours of the morning, or so it is assumed, as no one recalls when they emerged. M'hryn and Talibenth left the Weyr on a mission, rumored to be related to that Weyr Council meeting but not necessarily a result of it. Many believe that he may have went 'tween times as none of the dragons can reach him. M'hryn informed the Wingleaders of A'lex's new position as Acting Weyrleader before his departure, as Kindre did to the Weyrwomen and Headwoman.
M'kla, who had been a part of Benden and Telgar almost as long as Salless was, was lost during some Weyrling training drills. No one knows exactly what happened, but she and Torinth made a leap *between* and never emerged. This was a great loss to Kindre, atop other hard situations occuring at the Weyr in the most recent turns. Herath rose again and it was bronze Nraith who caught her in the wee hours of the morning, naming Telgar's third Weyrleader since the "Benden Invasion" as A'lex. The two seem to have found an easy niche running the Weyr together. Rhiallya took an extended absence, replaced by Kailia as Headwoman, and then returned a few turns later to retake her position. Selaye ran the nurseries so well that she caught the eyes of the Weyrleaders. Soon she was promoted to the position of Head Steward.
On the first day of the 11th month in the 30th turn, Threadfall again darkened the skies over Telgar's coverage area. During that pre-dawn Threadfall that proved to be nastier than initially thought, Herath's wing was scored very badly when a patch suddenly veered into her and Kindre's path. The initial diagnosis from the Dragonhealers was that Herath would be unable to fly for some time and while she would eventually be able to fly Threadfall again, probably would never be able to fly to the heights or length of time needed to sustain a good clutch for Telgar Weyr. Considering the current health of her dragon and the needs of the Weyr, Kindre, along with A'lex and Nimiriel, decided that retiring her position would be in the best interests of all involved. And so after seven turns of being Senior and just past thirty-three turns of age, Kindre became the last of the Benden queenriders who made the move to Telgar to lead the Weyr.
On the last day of the 12th month in the 35th turn, Herath surprised many rising into Telgar's skies once again! She was caught by S'dar's Chezroth, bringing the former Assistant Steward and rider back to Telgar, at least for some time, and welcome time at that. Kindre had her first child (some would say 'finally') with S'dar. Young Indar, nicknamed Indy, entered Pern not long after the Hatching. Never one to let surprise events weigh her or her lifemate down, Kindre and Herath are still handling life's joys and challenges quite well.
Flights, clutchings, hatchings, Threadfall...Telgar continues to prosper...
