Summary  |  History  |   Benden Weyr   |  Herath  |  Telgar Weyr   |  Links & Logs

Herath was the last gold hatched from PC Benden Weyr on PernMUSH.

        Hatching Temper
Fire and ice, that's what this gold dragon is. She seems to be angry at the world, quick to argue and definately the boss. Her needs come first and she knows it! Herath has a strong sense of herself and carries herself arrogantly. Extremely jealous, this one is. No one can be near her or her lifemate without a firm warning. It will be crystal clear who belongs to her and no one else. Not suprisingly, the calming influence in the life of this conceited dragon will be her lifemate. She'll find her own inner peace when her human counterpart is near.

        Current Description
Like Rukbat creeping over snow-glistened mountaintops to burn off the mists of daybreak, this dragon appears shrouded in the soft golds of early morning. Delicate coral tints seemingly stolen from the undersides of dawn-kissed clouds drift subtly across her aurora hide. Dull silver flecks dance themselves within the pink casting so prominant along her muzzle and head, slowly fading away as the blush hues do along her backriders and tail. Her wingspars are like bars of molten gold stretched across the daybreak horizon while her wingsails the illusion of dewy dawnslight overtaking the shadowy remains of night. A rather large queen, though not the largest, she is also terribly strong. Her sinewy muscles have been conditioned to perfection, as is evidenced with each purposeful move she makes; every touch of murky-gold talons to the ground is done with slow, graceful intent.
As happens to many of Pern's winged creatures, Thread has left its ugly mark on this lovely queen. A golden spiderweb of scars lattice themselves across her left wing in a menacing pattern. She carries herself rather arrogantly despite that, as if Belior itself revolved around her. Short on temper and patience for concerns other than her lifemate's...and her own, for that matter...she is quick to glare icily or battle vehemently if she feels the least bit slighted. Hard to tell which reaction she'll garnish, though Kindre's quiet reminders seem to temper her.
Herath is a fairly impressive forty one meters from proud muzzle to lithe tailtip, her wings just over sixty eight meters when fully unfurled. Leaving her shards behind with hardly more than a glance over 23 turns ago, she seems to know her place and has few qualms letting anyone know it.

        Herath's First Clutch & Hatching

(Subsequent Flights/Clutchings/Hatchings listed at the bottom)

        "She's just...grumpy..." Herath's First Flight
...Or so Kindre tried to convince herself. She knew, though, as did half of Benden by the time Herath was through. Gathering various bits of advise from several people at the Weyr, such as Ursa, Jehrina, P'tran, Merla, M'kla and several others, Kindre prepared for an event at which she had (up to this point) merely been an onlooker of. Kassima phrased it best one afternoon at Boll: (note: I wish to Faranth I could remember this verbatum...what follows is from recollection only and most likely is only vaguely close to her wonderful IC words...) "Picture it like this, Kin. Imagine yourself as a puny, malnutritioned, just-out-of-the-shell firelizard somewhere in the hottest deserts of Igen. Now, imagine Herath as the biggest, strongest, most fierce-willed dragon in all of Pern. What happens? Well you, as the excuse-for-a-firelizard, are about to go head to head with the dragon that could eat the Red Star for breakfast. Get it?" Needless to say, Kin was a little taken aback, but all the more prepared for when Herath rose. The events prior to the queen's maiden flight were quite amusing. As it happened, M'rgan was visiting Benden just before the gold decided now was as good a time as any...though of course he didn't quite escape Kassi nor Kin, the latter not in her right mind as it was. "Arming" the young goldrider with a lovely new knife, Kassi forc...er, was able to persuade the Reaches brownrider into a newly purchased kilt she had picked up especially for him. Herath began blooding, and soon most of the cavern moved out into the norther bowl. Weyrleader P'tran guided Kindre through the beginning... Then Herath took flight! And as if in some twist of irony (was it skill? was it luck?), it was the kilted M'rgan's Ularrith who caught the young queen...

As Herath began to get larger with each passing day, her temperment and moods became more...well, interesting. When the time came, she and Ularrith were on the sands while others came and left from the galleries. For the duration of two days, Herath clutched a total of thirty-two eggs. Soon after that Benden began riding Search and a plethora of interesting young people began living at the Weyr in anticipation of Ularrith and Herath's "children" breaking their shells. Kassima had given Kin a lovely kilt done in Benden's colors, which the goldrider found herself rushing to get into when Herath gave her a nanosecond of warning: << They're ready. Where are you? >> Rushing to the sands as the humming began, Kindre was soon joined by M'rgan, the Weyrleaders, the Weyrlingmasters, and the Candidates as the Hatching begun.

After all the shells had been cracked and lifepartners made, Benden had it's newest class of Weyrlings. Emlyn, Asrai, T'saren, Breana, and Sisirye, amoung many others, began their lives as Benden Weyrlings that day.
