"Do You Have Energy?"

An interesting fact I've learned about energy is that solar energy is the source of our food chains. Another fact I learned about energy is "solar" in the word "solar energy" means sun. This is because solar energy is energy from the sun.
by Fernando Masterson
An interesting fact that I learned about energy is we cannot live without solar energy. It enables plants to make their own food. Plants are "loaded" with energy!
by Katelyn Blume
An interesting fact I have learned about energy is when you turn on a light bulb the current energy flows giving the bulb enough energy to give off light, and when you turn off the light bulb the current energy just stops.

If you drop a penny off the Empire State building someone below you could get knocked out because of all the kinetic energy increasing as the penny falls!
by Georgia Compton
An interesting fact I have learned about light energy is that it can make the grass green or a shirt red, because it shows which color was not absorbed by that particular matter.
by Sheri Ferrand
An interesting fact I have learned about energy is heat transfers, & that the convection kind is like an "infection". It travels through air and liquid!
by Lauren Gentile
One interesting fact abut energy is its definition. It is the ability to cause changes in matter. There are two kinds of energy and many forms of energy.

One interesting fact I've learned about energy is that nuclear energy is released when the nucleus of an atom is split apart.

"Stay Safe Around Fire!!!"

What could be more important than keeping you and your loved ones safe? Two ways you can prevent house fires is to make sure to keep all flammable items away from heat sources and to also check appliances often.

To begin with, one way to help prevent a house fire in your home is to make sure to keep all flammable items away from heat sources. For example, one day you may be sitting by a candle reading a magazine and for some reason you get up and walk away for a minute. While you are gone your magazine drops to the floor where your candle is placed. Even though you planned only to be gone for a minute you take longer than planned. When the magazine dropped and touched the candle it started a house fire. The fire became larger and reached the bookshelf, which caused the fire to grow even larger. When you came back you were astonished to see such huge flames. Not only did you call 9-1-1 you also grabbed buckets of water to put out the fire. When this disaster was over all that was left was a dark black room with one book.

In addition to making sure to keep all flammable items are kept away from heat sources, you also need to check all appliances often. This means making certain to check the batteries in your smoke detector every three months. For example one day you realize that you haven't checked the smoke detector lately, but you figure since there hasn't been a fire that there is no reason to worry. That night you smell something burning but it can't be food because everyone in the house is asleep. When you walk down the stairs you start to get warmer and as you step even closer you realize that it is a fire. You then run up the stairs frantically to tell your parents. Your mom wonders why the smoke detector didn't go off. The next morning when you wake up you go down stairs and see your mom repairing the detector. That night there was no fire!

In conclusion, two ways to prevent house fires in your home are remember to keep all flammable items away from heat sources and check smoke detectors often. Remember if there is ever a fire in your home notify the police. That's 9-1-1.

Do you know the dangers of fire? If not here are some ways to keep you and your family safe from minor to fatal injuries. In order for you and your family to be safe you would want to keep all flammable objects away from heat and you also may want an escape route.

To begin with in order for you and your family to be safe you would want to keep all flammable objects away from heat. For example, if you had a fireplace you would not want to have a rag or piece of paper less than three feet ( one meter ) away from the fire place because it can burn your house down and cause a lot of smoke which can cause serious injuries or death. One way to prevent this is to have a screen for your fire place. Another way to keep you and your family safe from fire is to not have a sheet of paper or any other burning material near a candle. The candle can become unsteady because of too much wax and tip over on the sheet of paper or any other burning material less than three feet away. If this happened the flames may spread to other burning materials and your house could burn down. One way to prevent this from happening is for you to always be in the same room the candle was in.

In addition you should have a fire escape route. You should have an escape route because if a fire were to occur you would need to escape and know where to go. For example you could climb out of a window and go to a meeting place which could be your back or front yard. If you lived in a high-rise you would want to take the stairs and never the elevator because it may get stuck and you would be trapped. Another reason why you and your family would need an escape route is because if you didn't and a fire were to occur you wouldn't know where to go and injury or death may occur.

In conclusion you should have no source of flammable objects near heat and you should have an escape route and remember: Stay Safe Around Fire!

"Say No to Drugs!"

A mascot that I think would be good to represent the "Say No to Drugs" Program is a red heart because a red heart shows what your heart will look like when you don't smoke. It also shows how healthy you are when you are drug free.

To begin with, I chose a heart because it shows what your heart will look like if you don not do drugs. One day I was at the doctor's office to get my hearing checked. On my way out I looked at a pamphlet about your hearts. I read that when you do drugs your heart turns black. I took the pamphlet home and gave it to a person that did drugs. The next time I went over to their house I saw that they had made sure everything was clean and no odor from drugs remained. They wanted a red heart!

In addition, a red heart also represents how healthy you are. One day I went to the doctor's office to get my heart checked. I knew another person that went when I did and she did drugs. When I was finished I went and peaked in to see how she was doing. I heard the doctor say she is having problems with her heart. I knew she smoked so that gave me a clue that drugs are bad.

In conclusion, I chose a heart for my mascot because it shows how healthy we are if we stay drug free.

Duhn, Duhn, Duh! It's Jaws #4 with Fang, the great, great white shark who know how to take a bite out of drug addiction and helps drug-users over-come their problem! Fang is the top under-water patrol-fish. He keeps all of the seven seas, healthy and drug-free.

Most people fear Fang, like other great-white sharks, but there is a lot that we can learn from them: #1. Sharks are very stubborn when it comes to persuading them to do something you want them to. (You don't usually see sharks doing tricks at Seaworld.) #2. Due to its size and physical properties most people would not want to argue with it. #3. Sharks are very strong fish and have the power to encourage others not to do drugs.

Would you argue with a shark? Maybe you should rent Jaws!!!(and see for yourself)

Sharks are an important part of marine life and should be protected everyday. Just remember that they are living too and even though they might seem scary, THEY HAVE THE POWER TO SAY "NO" TO DRUGS!

Just when you thought it was safe to swim in the ocean. Just kidding. It is. But it's not safe to do drugs. CHOMP!

"I see bad guys selling Drugs!" "Do not talk to them. Go tell a grown up and the grown up will call the Police officer. Then the police officer will find the bad guys with drugs and will take them to prison. The bad guys will be in prison for a long, long time.
