ARE YOU PREPARED FOR A HURRICANE?

During hurricane conditions, when winds exceed 150 m.p.h., rainfall measures more than six inches in 24 hours and the seas build up to 20 feet, damage could be intense. For up to 72 hours after the storm is over, it is very possible that the fire department (rescue squads) and police will not have the ability to come to Coral Ridge to help. If you need help, medical or otherwise, you are on your own. While some people know CPR, basic first aid, and how to make necessary repairs to their homes, many do not. These people who do not are the ones who may need help the most. CERT, Community Emergency Response Team, is made up of residents who have completed eight weeks of training with the Ft. Lauderdale Fire Department to assist neighbors in the event of an emergency situation such as the aftermath of a hurricane. At the time of this writing, there are ten Coral Ridge residents who have CERT certification, and one who is currently enrolled. Many people do not have the time to attend the classes, but would still like to give a hand with the recovery after a storm. If you are one of those people, you can help by filling out the attached form (to any extent that you would like), and send it to me. This information will be used by the CERT team only to assist them in organizing volunteers. I will do my best to coordinate you with the CERT group to work together as a team.
