There is an effort citywide in Fort Lauderdale as is in many cites throughout the United States to include, the historical street names or create new street names adding to the in.-place numbered system if they, are not already in use. In Fort Lauderdale it would mean both reinserting historical street names and creating new street names to the already in-place numbered citywide system. This will bring back some of the old charm to our city which existed before the late 50's and early 60's and create some new charm with the entirely new names. This would be done by installing entirely, new street signs or replacement signs in areas already having historical street names such as Sunrise Blvd at the top and NE 10 St at the bottom of the new street signs.
But we need your help: we are missing some of the historical street names for the City of F'ort Lauderdale. If you know your historical street name or any others and you have something to verify it such as an original deed, letter envelopes with a post mark, old maps, etc., please bring it to your next neighborhood meeting so it may be added to the
street name list. Additionally, it is known that some of neighborhood streets may have never had historical names. In that case the individual residents of those streets by majority vote may choose a name (provided it is not already in use in the city) for their street.
The latest neighborhood to add back the historical names is Rio Vista at Davie Blvd east of Federal Hwy.
City Police, marine patrol, fire, and ambulance services will be advised far in advance to avoid any disruptions.
In any extent please go to your next neighborhood meeting to listen and voice your opinion.
