 Free Transportation Includes Beach Center
A free community bus program has added a route servicing the Galt, North Beach, Coral Ridge Towers and surrounding communities.
The City of Fort Lauderdale and Broward County Transit (BCT) are offering this free air-conditioned and wheelchair accessible service to increase the number of destinations within city limits. The service route runs north and south from N.E. 41st Street to N.E. 20th Street, and east and west along Oakland Park Boulevard from A1A to the Coral Ridge Mall. The service also serves as a connecting service to BCT routes 10, 11, 20, 36, 55, 62, and 72. The service, which operates 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, will provide transportation access to areas including the new Beach Community Center, Coral Ridge Mall, movie theatres, restaurants, medical offices, pharmacies and local businesses.
For more information about this new program, please contact Horace McHugh, Assistant to the City Manager, at 828-7875.

Catch the Fever! Trade Mercury Thermometers For Free Digital Type In an effort to promote the awareness of National Pollution Prevention Week, September 16-22, residents are encouraged to trade-in their mercury thermometers for a free digital thermometer.
A mercury thermometer exchange drive will take place that week by the Broward County Department of Planning and Environmental Protection (DPEP) at Broward County's Main Library in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Supplies are limited and only one digital thermometer will be given per household. However, there are no limits on the number of mercury thermometers that can be turned in for proper disposal.
To participate, bring your mercury thermometers in the original case or wrapped in tissue, placed in a sturdy box, and enclosed in a zip lock bag to the main library branch located at 100 S. Andrews Avenue. The exchange is considered vital in preserving the future of the environment. For more information, call Kay Sommers at (954) 519-1257 or the hotline at (954) 519-1458.
