| I hope you all enjoyed a Happy and Blessed Easter! Your CRA gave its Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Eve at JACK KAYE PARK for Coral Ridge Children. It was chaired by INGE GROSSMANN and like last year was very well attended. INGE does a great job for our Coral Ridge kiddies, and we appreciate her hard work.
We are delighted to announce that our CRA paid membership is at an ALL TIME
HIGH RECORD, NEARLY 500, and we congratulate Membership Chairman JOSIE HOUSE for her fine work.
As announced in our last Newsletter, the CRA held a Membership Meeting on Thursday, evening, March 22nd with City Traffic Engineer, Peter Partington presiding. Anyone who had an interest in BayView Drive was urged to attend and express their views. Mr. Partington showed slides which depicted suggestions, for traffic calming such as they described in their 3 earlier meetings by Hall & Hughes. These slides depicted elevated tables in the road at each intersection with BayView Drive, widening the medians so that the traffic lanes on either side would be very narrow, but most complained that such narrow traffic lanes would not permit the use of ambulances, fire trucks, other emergency vehicles, as well as the city bus service which Coral Ridge residents now enjoy. Most of those who spoke were opposed to speed humps or speed tables, or narrowing traffic lanes as too dangerous, and instead favored better enforcement of the 30 MPH speed limit and/or adding more medians (not excessively wide) to beautify and enhance the appearance of BayView Drive as a residential street. More medians to beautify, had been approved by the CRA Board some I time ago. It was also suggested that the Association send out ballots to let Coral Ridge property owners vote their choice. No majority conclusion was reached. |
Mr. Partington pointed out that the City Commission has not initiated anything specific to do anything so far, and no money has been designated by the Commission to do anything on BayView Drive. Most residents seemed to feel that our best solution was to add some medians strategically placed, and landscaped to beautify, as the other traffic calming devices suggested would be more of a nuisance and inconvenience to residents than to leave it alone. The CRA Board will discuss this further at its next Board Meeting.
Please remember to put your old telephone books in the collection bin near Bay View School. Remember the $798.00 check the CRA received from the City for our recycling efforts. Let's do it again. We thank Diane Massey, chairman, for her hard work on this.
We look forward to having the 3 day Small Boat Show at the south end of George English Park on the weekend of May 18-20. Your CRA Board invited Show Management represented by officers of the Corp., John Nigro and Andrew Doole, to our last Board Meeting for a detailed explanation of their plans. They guaranteed to replace or repair any damage to the Park , and will give free admission tickets to Coral Ridge residents(admission tickets otherwise $6) and free fishing rods and other amenities for BayView School children. This was approved for one year only, on a trial basis.
If you haven't already done so, please mail you membership dues to Josie House, Membership Chairman, along with the membership application below. Remember last year we had the largest membership of any homeowners group in the city. This year we have broken our own record. LET'S KEEP IT THAT WAY!
Remember, in unity there is strength!
Yours for a better Coral Ridge,
HARRIET KAYE
President
