The City of Fort Lauderdale's Sanitation Division in cooperation with Broward County Recycling & Contract Administration will sponsor "The Big Spring Clean-out," a household hazardous waste collection program on Sunday, May 20, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Downtown Fort Lauderdale. This special one-day, free event will take place in the parking lot at 101 N. Andrews Avenue, just north of Broward Boulevard. Broward County residents are urged to drop-off leftover paints, paint thinners and strippers, pesticides, used motor oil, automotive fluids and gasoline solvents, insecticides, lawn and pool chemicals, fire extinguishers, propane tanks and household cleaners. Biohazardous waste, explosives, and flares will not be accepted. At the Big Spring Clean-out, residents will register by showing proof of Broward County residency, then drive to hazardous material stations in the parking lot. Attendants will remove the waste materials from the cars, allowing residents the convenience of staying in their cars at all times. Residents are asked to keep products in their original containers with tightly sealed lids to prevent dangerous situations. For products that are not in the original containers, residents must clearly label each item. The Big Spring Clean-out is FREE and open to Broward County residents. For more information about the Big Spring Clean-out, please call the City of Fort Lauderdale's Public Services Customer Service Line at (954) 771-0880 or the Broward County Recycling & Contract Administration Division at (954) 765-4999. | |
