Ft. Lauderdale Spring Boat Show
George English Park
May 18-29, 2001

The Ft. Lauderdale Spring Boat Show, held at the Bahia Mar Marina in the past, will be in George English Park on May 18-20, 2001. This show consists of small motor boats, sizes 8' to 26' in length. Many people were concerned about this show being held in Coral Ridge and what kind of effects may reside. Of the city commissioners, Gloria Katz paid special attention to the details before granting it permission. With many drawbacks possible in a show such as this, strict rules were discussed and then agreed upon before it was allowed. Special thanks to Paul Dooley, Brian Leary, and Ed Sullivan for the time they spent overlooking these discussions.

Great care will be taken with the direction of traffic, the control of parking, and the repair of any damage to the park caused by the show. There will always be hired policemen to maintain strict order.

Preparation for the show will begin on Monday, May 14, and continue throughout the week. All Coral Ridge homeowners are to receive two complimentary boat show tickets along with the May newsletter, to thank them for allowing the event to be held in their back yard. If you would like some more tickets for your family, email Ron Laffey.

Water Skiing on Middle River

On Thursday, April 5th, the Ft. Lauderdale Commissioners, led by Gloria Katz, met to take a final vote on the closing of Middle River to water skiing. Gloria opened the discussion by suggesting not only to keep the one section of Middle River that allows water skiing to remain that way, but to open other closed areas as well. After listening to several people air their views of the subject, the Commissioners voted for Gloria's proposal. It, however, will not take affect for up to sixty days due to all the paper work that needs to be done in City Hall. Arguments have since arisen about opening certain areas. This will be an ongoing battle for some time to come.

If you need to call them for a non-emergency, the number is on page 17, along with many others gathered by Beth.

Take part in the Coral Ridge General Meetings! They are for you! Next one in July!
