President's Message

The George English Park improvements have finally been finished and we thank the Parks Department and the City for a fine job and expanded facilities.

We approached the Spring Boat Show "Boats in the Park" in George English Park with a little trepidation, but the producers were so willing to cooperate, and repair any damage to the Park , and so generous with free Admission Passes for Coral Ridge residents that we finally agreed. They were true to their word, and we have not had complaints about parking on nearby streets, or other problems. The police did a fine job closing nearby streets to local traffic only, and no complaints have been reported. It in no way resembled the parking fiasco created by the Air and Sea Show.

I am sure you have noticed the repairs that began May 14th by the Florida Department of Transportation to the low level fixed bridge over Middle River on Sunrise Boulevard. This repair work is estimated to take at least 105 days so the new bridge will not be completed until at least September.

On June 14th, Flag Day was celebrated at the Jack Kaye Park. The city provided the necessary tenting, chairs and microphone, while Congressman E. Clay Shaw arranged to get us a large new flag (originally flown over the Capitol Building. in Washington D.C.) in dedication for the ceremony. The event is sponsored by Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, Broward County Chapter every year. The Freedoms Foundation already donated the large flag pole at the Jack Kaye Park when the park was dedicated. All residents were welcome to attend the very inspiring ceremony.

New replacement plants have been ordered for our Coral Ridge Entrances at 30th Street and 26th Street, but the nursery cannot plant them until watering restrictions are lifted, as they require generous watering when they are newly planted, so cross your fingers for more rain soon!

We have an application from the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Torch Bearers Committee, for a Torch Bearer Nominee. If you would like to be a Torchbearer on the Relay Team in Fort Lauderdale, please contract me, or any of our Board Members.

Someone new has been added to our neighborhood. We have a Celebrity living in Coral Ridge and a new member of CRA. The lovely winner of the Mrs. Southeast Florida Internatioal title is Mrs. Nikki Marchelos who has bought a home here at Coral Ridge, where she and her husband and their 3 children now live. Two of the children attend Bayview School where Nikki helps out as a volunteer. She may be elected Mrs. Florida International soon. We are pulling for you Nikki!

We look forward to seeing all of you at our upcoming Membership Meeting at the 1st Congregational Church on 30th Street and Middle River Drive, Thursday, June 21st at 7:00 P.M.

If you haven't already done so, please pay your CRA Dues for 2001 with the Membership Application below. Remind your neighbors that our dues are only $25 per year per family. Let's help our new Membership Chairman, Josie House to maintain the Coral Ridge Association as the largest homeowner's group in the city. LET'S KEEP IT THAT WAY!

Remember, in unity there is strength!
Yours for a better Coral Ridge,

HARRIET KAYE
President
