The very first thing you see when you walk into a room is color! Your eye then focuses on objects and style but color is first thing you see.

Color in a room creates harmony and balance. Color should reflect the mood, atmosphere and personality in of the room. Color is the unifying element in the room.

Color is classified in to two group's warm and cool colors.

Warm colors are tints and shades of red orange and yellow.

Cool colors are tints and shades of green blue and violet.

Warm colors should be used in rooms that get little or no sun light and also used in north and east exposure rooms.

Cool colors are used in rooms that get a lot of light and also west and south exposure rooms.

The strong light here in Florida tends to fade the effect of pale color schemes so you may need to go a few shades darker than you wish to get the effect you want.

Neutral colors are Black, Gray, White, Brown and Beige. Neutral colors are used to tone down color schemes or help blend colors. Totally neutral color schemes are great to decorate with because the look of a room can easily and inexpensively changed. When you use neutrals on your furniture, floors, and walls you can change the whole atmosphere of the room by simply changing the accessories. Neutral colors are easier to live with in small spaces.

If you are completely at sea about choosing a color scheme look at objects for guidance a painting you are planning to use a rug or perhaps a fabric selection. Some people choose color schemes that they look best in and then choose furnishings to correspond. Another idea for choosing a color scheme is to pick a color and then take it into depth think of things in that color. Example Green: grass, moss, limes, avocados, trees through out the seasons, apples, pears, onions, seaweed, algae, marble, slate, emeralds, jade, rosemary, sage. Keeping nature in mind can give a striking effect to a monochromatic color scheme especially when contrasted or accented with neutral colors that will set them off.

Color can visually correct a room's layout. To make a small room appear larger use lighter color schemes. Have walls and floor the same shade To make a large room appears more warm and cozy use strong and deeper colors. Crown molding, wallpaper borders and chair rails add a warm effect and will visually bring the walls in. Dark colors will lower ceilings and light colors will add height. Narrow rooms will visually double in size by using diagonal stripe effect on floor. Long narrow rooms will appear more squared if you paint the end walls a deeper shade than the long walls.
