Personal Interests (in no particular
order)
If you have a sound card (and your web browser is set up to
play Midi files), you're listening to 'Tomorrow', by Bob Baker, © 1997, SeaGoat Music.
- Client/Server and Thin Client
Systems Development
- I get a great deal of satisfaction from building software
that people can use in their daily work, and the client/server and thin client
architectures hold the highest degree of satisfaction to me, because people can use a
common database and share the results of all their efforts. Information is power, and
timely access to it is critical in today's rapidly evolving business world.

- My Kids
- Kelly is 19, and attending
Florida State University in Tallahassee. She was a great
soccer mid-fielder, and played for the Bishop Moore High School Class 4A Hornets and
Central Florida United Club soccer teams. Stephen is
16, and is also fantastic mid-fielder for the Central Florida United Soccer Club. He is a sophomore
at Winter Park High School where he has recently
taken up lacrosse. He is also working on his guitar chops. Laraine is 14, and is the fiddler in
the family. She is in the Advanced Orchestra at Maitland Middle
School. She also has a mean forehand volley (tennis for the uninitiated). Sheila and I are both
extremely proud of our three progeny.
-
- Model Railroading
- Ever since I was a child, and accompanied my father to his
friend's house to work on their basement-sized H.O. layout, or when my father would take
me to see the steam engines rumble through Metuchen N.J. on their way to and from New York
City, Atlantic City, or Philadelphia, I've been a train buff. I collected Lionel trains
for a few years, but have switched to H.O. scale, and am now building a small layout to exercise the hobby (some would say exorcise daemons
<g>).

- Music and MIDI
- I've been a musician for nearly 35 years (well, probably all
my life), and MIDI technology just amazes me. I've got a Roland Sound Canvas daughterboard
(SCD-15 -- check out the new Roland Virtual Sound Canvas here) on a SoundBlaster Pro, and using Cakewalk Professional, I've been able to sequence
background music for performances, complete arrangements of my compositions, and even
practice sequences for the more complicated church music I am playing each week. When not
mousing around with music on a computer, I can be found playing either an ancient Martin D-18, a non-descript Fender classical guitar, or a Fender Precision Bass.
-
- Softball
- You've got to exercise, and organized adult-league softball
is my way of letting off steam. Of course, we tend to get most of it back in the
sponsoring pub after the games, but it's a great way to get exercise and enjoy life with
your buddies.
And, of course...
- Web Surfing
- I usually start out at search.com,
but Microsoft, Borland,
Oracle, and Sun
Microsystems have a lot of interesting things to investigate. The Microsoft Network is a good place to start as well.
