Selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins as an underage junior in the second round (second Penguins pick, 26th overall) of the NHL Entry Draft June 13, 1987. Traded by Penguins with Center/Left Wing Randy Cunneyworth and Right Wing Dave McLlwain to the Winnipeg Jets for Andrew McBain, Jim Kyte and Randy Gilhen June 17, 1989. Traded by the Jets to the Washington Capitals for Jim Hrivnak and future considerations March 22, 1993. Traded by the Capitals to the Calgary Flames for a 5th-round pick in the 1995 draft. Traded by the Flames to the Tampa Bay Lightning November 1996 for Aaron Gavey.Traded by the Tampa Bay Lightning back to Calgary for a 4th-round draft pick in 1998.



Named to OHL All-Star first team 1987-88, and OHL All-Star second team 1988-89.

Rick was a major force behind the Lightning's purchase of a luxury suite last season for use by a Tampa hospital's pediatric patients and their parents to watch the Bolts' games in comfort.
Rick also contributed over $1,400 last season to the Special Olympics through the Seminole Casino Assist Program.
Takes part in the Calgary Stampede's Kid's Day and also in the Puck and Paper Reading Program in Calgary grade schools. Rick was recently named spokesperson for the Alberta Children's Hospital in Canada.
