So what else is new? The New Jersey Devils continued their mystifying mastery over the Penguins, getting two goals from Kirk Muller and charging from behind twice for a 6-4 victory last night at Byrne Arena.
It didn't help, of course, that the Penguins once put the puck in their own net - defenseman Steve Dykstra committing the gaffe, under mild pressure from Muller in the second period.
Mario Lemieux scored two goals for the Penguins, but it couldn't prevent the pesky Devils from raising their record to 11-3 in the last 14 games between the two teams.
New Jersey was 6-1 against the Penguins last season.
The game was a disappointing NHL debut for 19-year-old Penguin goaltender Richard Tabaracci, who was pulled at the 13:05 mark of the second period, with the Devils leading, 4-3. Tabaracci allowed 4 goals on 21 shots, but one of those was Dykstra's miscue, and another - the Devils' fourth goal - deflected off the skate of defenseman Paul Coffey.
Wendell Young replaced Tabaracci and was nicked for two goals on 14 shots.
